The digital release of Rani Mukerji's Mardaani 3 has been scheduled. The third film in Yash Raj Films' successful cop thriller series will begin streaming on Netflix on March 27 after its theatrical release in January. The upcoming release will show Rani in her role as the powerful and dedicated Shivani Shivaji Roy.
Netflix India confirmed the release on social media, sharing a poster of Rani Mukerji from the film and teasing the arrival of the cop thriller with the line, “Criminals ke bure din shuru. Sherni aa rahi hai shikaar karne.” The announcement has added fresh buzz around the film, especially among fans who missed it in theatres.
Directed by Abhiraj Minawala and produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films, Mardaani 3 continues the story of Shivani Shivaji Roy as she takes on a disturbing case involving 93 missing young girls within a span of three months. The film also features Janki Bodiwala and Mallika Prasad alongside Mukerji.
The film reached cinemas on January 30 and went on to collect ₹76.20 crore worldwide, according to Sacnilk. That puts it ahead of Mardaani 2, which earned ₹67 crore globally, and the original Mardaani, which made ₹59.30 crore. While the box office numbers show steady interest in the franchise, the film received mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike.
Some viewers appreciated the return of Shivani Shivaji Roy and Rani Mukerji’s commanding screen presence, while others felt the film repeated familiar beats from the earlier installments. A few social media users praised the film with heart and thumbs-up reactions, saying they had found their weekend watch. Others were less impressed, calling it a “mid sequel” and complaining that it leaned too heavily on a familiar social-message formula. One user even joked about Rani’s look in the poster, while another made a quirky comparison to Al Pacino’s films.
Even so, the franchise continues to hold a strong place in the minds of viewers, largely because of Rani Mukerji’s performance as Shivani. As one review noted, the film may not break new ground, but it still works because of the authority and intensity she brings to the role.
With Mardaani 3 now heading to Netflix on March 27, the film is set for a second run with home audiences, and this time the conversation is likely to continue online as more viewers weigh in on the latest chapter of the franchise.
