The theft came to light when the family checked their almirah for stored jewellery and found several ornaments missing, prompting a police complaint and search for the momo vendor.

A bizarre case from Uttar Pradesh's Deoria district has surfaced, where a 14-year-old boy allegedly stole jewellery worth lakhs from his own home to feed his addiction to momos.

Police said the minor, a resident of a village under Rampur Karkhana police station limits, was so hooked on the street snack that he began secretly taking gold ornaments from the house and handing them over to a momo vendor in exchange for food. Over time, several pieces of jewellery went missing without the family realising it.

The matter came to light when the boy's aunt visited her parental home to collect her jewellery. When the almirah was opened, the ornaments were found missing. On questioning, the family discovered that the boy had been stealing the items and giving them to a momo seller who operated a cart in Rampur town.

Shocked family members immediately approached the police.

A police official said that the complaint has been received and an investigation is underway. "The matter has come to our notice. We are verifying the details and the accused will be taken into custody soon," he said. Police are now tracing the vendor and assessing the total value of the stolen jewellery.
