Multiple Disney cruise ship employees were detained by Customs and Border Protection agents in connection with a child sexual exploitation materials investigation, according to reports.
Variety and 10 News reported that CBP detained 28 people after boarding eight cruise ships docked in San Diego from April 23 to April 27.
"After boarding the vessels and interviewing 26 suspected crew members from the Philippines, one suspected crew member from Portugal, and one from Indonesia, officers confirmed that 27 of the 28 subjects were involved in either the receipt, possession, transportation, distribution, or viewing of CSEM or child pornography," CBP said in a statement reported by both outlets.
The agency said that the people detained are being returned to their countries of citizenship.
The New York Post reported that one of the cruise ships boarded by authorities was a Disney ship.
“We have a zero-tolerance policy for this type of behavior and fully cooperated with law enforcement," a spokesperson for Disney Cruise Line tells PEOPLE in a statement. "While the majority of these individuals were not from our cruise line, those who were are no longer with the company."
10 News reported that a passenger aboard the Disney Magic took a video of agents detaining multiple ship employees.
"It wasn't until they turned around that you could read the back where it says Customs and Border, but it still said, you know, police or officer," the passenger, Dharmi Mehta, told 10 News.
