8 pilgrims killed in Maharashtra after bus loses control, falls into ravine

Several passengers were injured and rushed to nearby hospitals. The site of the accident is known for its steep and dangerous terrain, making travel risky for vehicles.

At least eight pilgrims were killed in a tragic accident in Nandurbar, Maharashtra on Saturday when a bus lost control and fell into a deep ravine at Chandshali Ghat. The victims were returning from a visit to the Astamba Devi temple when the incident occurred, police said.

According to authorities, the driver lost control while navigating the steep ghat road, causing the vehicle to plunge into the ravine. The impact was so severe that passengers were thrown from the bus, which was completely damaged.

Local police rushed to the scene and immediately sent the injured to Taloda Sub-District Hospital, while those seriously wounded were referred to the district hospital for advanced treatment. The bodies of the deceased were sent for post-mortem and later handed over to their families.

The Astamba Devi temple is a significant pilgrimage site, especially among the tribal community, attracting large numbers of visitors from Maharashtra and Gujarat.

Chandshali Ghat, where the accident occurred, is known for its steep and treacherous terrain, increasing the risk for vehicles navigating the route.
