TV actor Ashish Kapoor, who was arrested by Delhi Police on Wednesday after a woman accused him of rape, was sent to 14-day judicial custody by the Tiz Hazari district court on Saturday.

A woman accused the Yeh Rishta-fame actor of sexually assaulting her inside a washroom during a house party in Delhi in the second week of August.

Earlier on Friday, police said that the actor underwent a medical potency test, claiming that it could serve as key evidence into the case registered against him.

Police said Kapoor came in contact with the woman through Instagram and later invited her to a party at a friend’s house, where the incident is alleged to have taken place.

The FIR initially named Kapoor, his friend, the friend’s wife and two unknown persons. Later, the woman changed her statement and said only Kapoor raped her.

The woman also alleged that the act was recorded on video, but police have not recovered any such footage. She further alleged that after the incident, Kapoor’s friend’s wife assaulted her outside the washroom.

Police said it was Kapoor’s friend’s wife who made the PCR call to report the matter. The investigation is ongoing.

Ashish Kapoor is a well-known face in Indian television, having appeared in several popular shows over the years, including Saraswatichandra, Love Marriage Ya Arranged Marriage, Chand Chupa Badal Mein, Dekha Ek Khwaab, Molkki Rishton Ki Agnipariksha, Woh Apna Sa and Bandini.
