Suriya's Kanguva opened in theatres on November 14. The fantasy action thriller, which opened to mixed reviews, is witnessing a decent opening at the box office. Directed by Siruthai Siva, the film is produced by KE Gnanavel Raja.

According to early box office reports by Sacnilk, Kanguva earned Rs 5.41 crore in India across all languages. However, the confirmed figures have yet to arrive.

Suriya's film was initially supposed to release in theatres on October 10. However, the film was pushed to avoid a clash with Rajinikanth's Vettaiyan. A Thursday release might not give the film any edge. However, the film is expected to collect more over the weekend than on its opening day.

Trade analyst Ramesh Bala said, "Kanguva has a soft opening. One of the main reasons is the delay in opening of advance booking in multiplexes. In Tamil Nadu and Chennai, the opening looked decent. This is a career-best opening for Suriya. Compared to his previous theatrical release, Etharkkum Thunindhavan, Kanguva will make 2 to 3 times the collection of director Pandiraj film."

India Today Digital, in its review for Kanguva, gave the film 2.5 out of 5 stars. An excerpt from the story read: "Suriya is the pillar that saves Kanguva to an extent. His earnest acting, whether in action or emotional scenes, does all the heavy lifting. Bobby Deol is underutilised in a film like Kanguva. A change in his lens, slo-mo shots, and head tilts do not make him menacing. He tries to fit into the character, but there’s only so much he can bring to it. Disha Patani has little to do in a film where lesser-known supporting actors get full-fledged action sequences."

Kanguva, starring Suriya, is an ambitious period film set to explore dual timelines. Suriya portrays two distinct characters across these eras. The film marks the Tamil debut of Disha Patani and Bobby Deol in significant roles, adding to the film's fresh appeal. Kanguva is shaping up to be a multi-layered narrative blending historical drama with character-driven storytelling.
