Jana Nayagan, starring Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor Vijay, has received clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The film has been awarded an 'A' (Adults Only) certificate, clearing the way for its theatrical release after a prolonged certification process. Details regarding any cuts or modifications suggested by the board have not yet been made public.

The film was originally slated for release on January 9, 2026. However, its release was postponed after the certification process was delayed. The producers had submitted the film to the CBFC in December 2025, expecting certification ahead of the scheduled release.

Instead of granting a certificate, the CBFC referred the film to a Revising Committee following complaints alleging that certain scenes portrayed religious sentiments and the armed forces in an objectionable manner. The referral delayed the certification process and prevented the film from releasing as planned.

The matter subsequently reached the courts. A single-judge bench of the Madras High Court initially directed the CBFC to issue certification to the film. However, the CBFC challenged that order before a division bench, which stayed the earlier ruling.

The producers later approached the Supreme Court seeking immediate relief. The apex court declined to intervene and directed the filmmakers to continue pursuing the matter before the Madras High Court.

With the CBFC now granting an 'A' certificate, the certification hurdle has been cleared. However, the makers have not officially announced a revised theatrical release date.

Meanwhile, speculation surrounding the film's release has gained traction on social media. A post circulating on X claimed that Jana Nayagan would release in theatres on July 24, with a Canadian distributor also mentioning the date. However, neither the filmmakers nor the production house has officially confirmed this release schedule.
