India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has retained his top spot among Test bowlers in the latest ICC rankings released on Wednesday, May 13. Among Indian batters, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill are placed 8th and 9th respectively in the Test batting charts.

In the bowling rankings, Bumrah continues to dominate the table with 879 rating points, holding off competition from leading pacers around the world. The next highest-ranked Indian bowler is Mohammed Siraj, who is placed 12th. Behind him, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja sits at 14th position, while spinner Kuldeep Yadav occupies 15th place in the latest update.

In the movers list, Australia’s Mitchell Starc and Test captain Pat Cummins have both gained one position each, moving up to second and fourth place respectively. New Zealand pacer Matt Henry has also made a notable jump, rising to third in the rankings after a strong run of performances

On the batting side, former England Test captain Joe Root continues to lead the rankings with 880 points, maintaining his consistency at the top of the table. India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal follows closely in eighth place with 750 points, while captain Shubman Gill, who has climbed one position, is placed ninth with 730 points.

England skipper Harry Brook holds the second spot in the batting rankings, followed by Australia’s Travis Head and Steve Smith in third and fourth positions respectively. The top order reflects a strong mix of consistency and recent form across teams.

Gill, in particular, had a landmark year in Test cricket last year, finishing as the highest run-scorer globally. He accumulated 983 runs in nine Tests at an outstanding average of 70.21, including multiple centuries. His standout performance was a career-best 269 against England, underlining his rise in red-ball cricket.

It is also notable that India has not played any World Test Championship (WTC) matches so far in 2026. Their last red-ball assignment came at home against South Africa in November, where they suffered a 2-0 series defeat.

Looking ahead, India is scheduled to play only one Test in 2026, a one-off match against Afghanistan on June 6. After this fixture, the team will shift its focus to white-ball cricket as part of preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup cycle
