West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee on Monday walked out of a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar in New Delhi over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state.
She alleged that the Election Commission had “humiliated" her and failed to address concerns raised by affected families.
Banerjee attended the meeting along with senior TMC leaders and families impacted by the SIR exercise.
She later told reporters that the delegation decided to boycott the meeting as, according to her, their grievances were not heard.
“The ECI humiliated us. They did not listen to us. That is why we walked out," she said. The meeting had been scheduled after the CEC agreed last week to meet Banerjee on Monday, February 2.
However, Election Commission sources strongly rejected the allegations.
ECI sources told News18 that the Chief Election Commissioner was patiently listening to questions and concerns when Banerjee allegedly became agitated, banged the table, and abruptly left the meeting.
“She did not allow the CEC to respond," sources claimed.
