West Bengal CM Announcement News Updates: Suvendu Adhikari, the star candidate of the BJP who defeated TMC Chief Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur, will be the party’s first Chief Minister in West Bengal.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah — who has been appointed as the Central Observer of the BJP in the state — made the announcement after a meeting with the party’s newly-elected MLAs.

“Suvendu will be the new CM of West Bengal”, he said, adding the decision followed multiple proposals backing the BJP leader for the Chief Ministerial post.

“I am grateful to the people of Bengal for their faith and mandate given to the BJP. We will ensure that we don’t hurt your trust”, Shah added.

When Will Bengal CM Take Oath?

Suvendu Adhikari is set to take oath as the Chief Minister at 11 A.M. tomorrow at the Brigade Parade ground.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also likely to attend the swearing-in ceremony, as he had announced during his final campaign rally in Barrackpore. “I am going back with the confidence that after the results on May 4, I will return here to attend the BJP government’s oath-taking ceremony,” he said.

In the 2026 elections, the BJP won 207 seats, while the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) was reduced to 80 seats after 15 years in power.

However, outgoing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee refused to resign and said, “Let them dismiss me. I want this to be a black day.”

Following this, West Bengal Governor RN. Ravi on Thursday dissolved the Legislative Assembly, clearing the way for the BJP’s first government in the state. From post-poll violence to the suspense over the next Chief Minister, Bengal’s political temperature continues to soar.
