Outgoing West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said she would not resign, insisting that she has not lost the election despite the results.

Addressing a press conference after the outcome, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief claimed that her party had “morally" won and alleged that the verdict was influenced by force.

“I haven’t lost. We didn’t lose the election. It’s their forceful attempt. Morally, we won the election," she said.

On Monday, the BJP scripted history by winning 206 seats to secure more than a two-thirds majority in the West Bengal assembly polls, ending the TMC’s 15-year rule, and decisively shifting the state’s ideological and political centre of gravity.
