Parliament Winter Session: Rajya Sabha MP S Phangnon Konyak on Thursday charged that Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi “misbehaved" with her and his “physical proximity" made her feel uncomfortable while protesting in the Parliament complex.
She wrote a letter to Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, alleging that her dignity and self-esteem were deeply hurt by the Lok Sabha LoP’s behaviour.
The Nagaland MP said that she was taking part in a protest near the staircase of Makar Dwar of the Parliament building when the security personnel created a passage to the entrance.
“Suddenly, Leader of Opposition, Shri Rahul Gandhi Ji along-with other Party Members came in front of me despite there being a passage created for them," she wrote.
She alleged that Rahul Gandhi “misbehaved" with her in a loud voice. “…and his physical proximity to me was so close that I being a lady member felt extremely uncomfortable. I stepped aside with heavy heart and denouncing my democratic rights but felt that no Member of Parliament should behave this way," she wrote.
She further mentioned that she belonged to the ST community in her state, and with alleged misbehaviour by Rahul, her “dignity and self-esteem have been deeply hurt".
“Therefore, Hon’ble Chairman sir, I seek your protection," she wrote.
Refuting the allegations against Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP Hibi Eden wrote to the Lok Sabha Speaker, and said that the allegation levelled by her is “entirely fabricated and devoid of facts and is a malicious attempt at belittling the integrity of Leader of Opposition."
