BJP MP from Vadodara backs out of Lok Sabha polls, cites 'personal reasons'

The BJP MP from Vadodara, Ranjan Bhatt, pulled out of the Lok Sabha poll race citing "personal reasons". The party fielded her from Vadodara for the third time.

The BJP MP from Vadodara, Ranjan Bhatt, on Saturday, said that she will not contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, citing "personal reasons".

The two-term BJP MP was again fielded by the party from Vadodara, which will go to polls on May 7.

"I, Ranjanben Dhananjay Bhatt, am unwilling to contest the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 due to my personal reasons [sic]," she said in a post on X in Gujarati.

Notably, a few days ago, Bhatt faced opposition against her candidature in the polls. According to news agency, banners were put up criticising the BJP's decision to renominate Bhatt from the Vadodara Lok Sabha seat.

Earlier, BJP MPs Gautam Gambhir and Jayant Sinha also opted out of the polls. In a post on X, Gambhir requested the BJP chief to relieve him from his political duties.

"I have requested party president J P Nadda ji to relieve me of my political duties so that I can focus on my upcoming cricket commitments," the former Indian cricketer said in a post on X.

A few days later, Jayant Sinha also asked the BJP president, JP Nadda, to relieve him of his electoral duties, saying he wanted to focus on combating climate change in India and around the world.

"I have requested JP Nadda to relieve me of my direct electoral duties so that I can focus my efforts on combating global climate change in Bharat and around the world. Of course, I will continue to work with the party on economic and governance issues," he said.

The elections for 543 Lok Sabha seats will be held in 7 phases with voting to kick off on April 19 to June 1. The counting of votes will be on June 4.
