Omar Abdullah’s Gen Z Jibe Over Viral Kargil Video: ‘New Jaante Nahi Mera Baap Kaun Hai’

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reacted to the viral Kargil video involving a woman and officials, comparing the “We are Gen Z” remark to the familiar “Jaante nahi mera baap kaun hai” attitude and questioning whether a younger generation is using identity as a way to assert privilege or avoid accountability.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday commented on the growing use of the phrase “We are Gen Z”, comparing it to the familiar expression “Jaante nahi ho mera baap kaun hai?” His remarks came after a video purportedly showing a woman arguing with security personnel at a checkpoint in Kargil went viral on social media.

The video reportedly relates to an incident at the Minimarg checkpoint in Kargil, Ladakh, where tourists were temporarily stopped amid traffic restrictions. The woman in the footage can purportedly be heard objecting to the restrictions and questioning the treatment of tourists.

The authenticity and complete context of the video have not been independently verified. There was also no official response from the Army regarding the incident at the time of the reports.

The video subsequently drew attention on social media, prompting Abdullah to comment on the language used in the exchange. His response focused on the potential misuse of the “Gen Z” label rather than confirming the circumstances shown in the footage.

Separately, Abdullah met US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor during the envoy’s two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. The meeting focused on India-US relations and issues concerning Jammu and Kashmir.

Gor said the United States would review its travel advisory concerning Jammu and Kashmir, citing what he described as steps taken by the central government and the J&K administration to improve safety in the region. He did not announce an immediate change to the advisory.

Abdullah said the discussions covered India-US relations, with particular attention to what Washington could do to support Jammu and Kashmir.
