Mumbai on Monday witnessed intense rain accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms, leading to waterlogging on roads and traffic disruptions across several areas. The downpour came as the monsoon finally arrived in the city a day ago.

The city experienced moderate to intense spells of rain, with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph expected at isolated places.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert until Tuesday, with heavier rainfall expected around Thursday and Friday as the monsoon strengthens further.

The heavy showers affected traffic movement across several parts of the city during peak hours.

The Western Express Highway witnessed heavy congestion after rain-related slowdowns, with waterlogging reported in areas and a vegetable-loaded truck overturning on the highway, adding to traffic woes.

Traffic movement on the Andheri subway was briefly stopped for around 10–15 minutes due to the rain. A civic body official was stationed at the spot to monitor the situation and ensure the subway remained clear.

Waterlogging was also reported in parts of Bandra East, with visuals showing rainwater accumulating on roads and affecting movement.

While the showers have brought relief from rising temperatures, authorities have urged citizens to remain cautious as heavy rain, lightning and gusty winds are expected in parts of the city.

The latest spell of rain quickly became a talking point online, with social media flooded with posts, videos and visuals of Mumbai’s first major showers of the season.

From waterlogged streets to dramatic clips of thunderstorms and rain-soaked roads, residents shared glimpses of the city’s monsoon mood.
