A 30-year-old nurse was found dead inside a locked toilet at the state-run Nil Ratan Sircar (NRS) Hospital in Kolkata on Wednesday night, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. A post-mortem examination is underway to determine the cause of death, while investigators are examining evidence collected from the scene.
During the search, staff members noticed that a toilet on the first floor of the maternity ward had remained locked for an unusually long period. They reportedly called out to the nurse but received no response. The staff subsequently broke open the door and found her lying inside.
Police also said that no suicide note was found at the location. The nurse’s mobile phone has been seized, and investigators are examining her call records and other information that could help establish her activities and interactions before the incident.
The area where the body was found has been cordoned off, with authorities examining the scene for potential evidence. The post-mortem examination is expected to play an important role in determining the cause and manner of death.
According to hospital staff, the nurse had married in March. Her husband’s family is based in Delhi, while her own family lives in East Midnapore district of West Bengal. Colleagues said she had been living with her husband in a rented flat near Kolkata.
