A week after 121 people lost their lives in a stampede during a satsang in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the July 2 case has submitted a nearly 300-page report in the case.

Sources said the report held overcrowding as the main reason behind the stampede.

Over 2 lakh people had arrived for the satsang, whereas the authorities had sought permission for nearly 80,000 people.

According to the details, the statements of 119 people have been included in the report.

The report also includes statements from Hathras District Magistrate, Ashish Kumar, Superintendent of Police, Nipun Agarwal, Sub Divisional Magistrate, and others.

Statements by police officials who were on duty on July 2, the day the stampede happened, were also included.

The SIT report also included statements from the affected families.

Earlier, the Uttar Pradesh Judicial Commission team recorded statements of several eyewitnesses in the Hathras stampede case.

On July 6, a case was registered against Bhole Baba, whose original name is Suraj Pal Singh, in the Hathras stampede case.

The same day, Baba, in a message, said he was depressed over the Hathras stampede incident and asked the affected families to have faith in the judiciary.

Dev Prakash Madhukar, the main accused in the July 2 Hathras stampede, was arrested on July 5.

Meanwhile, the godman's advocate, AP Singh, claimed that the mishap was caused after some unidentified men sprayed poison during the event.
