Late Wednesday night, Delhi Police arrested two members of the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang after a brief gunfight in the New Ashok Vihar area. The arrested men were identified as Kartik Jhakkad and Kavish.
The police said the two men work for Harry Boxer, a gangster based in the United States. He is believed to have ordered the recent shooting outside comedian Kapil Sharma’s cafe in Surrey, Canada.
“A team led by Inspector Sanjay Gupta and Inspector Pawan reached the area and spotted two suspicious men on a bike. When they were asked to stop, the pillion rider opened fire,” a Special Cell officer said.
The police fired back in self-defense and a bullet struck Jhakkad’s left leg causing the motorcycle to lose balance. Both Jhakkad and the driver Kavish were soon captured. Kavish has recently joined Harry Boxer’s gang, according to one of the police.
Jhakkad has an extensive criminal record with over 10 cases including extortion. Recently, he demanded Rs 2 crore from a businessman in New Ashok Vihar. Police are investigating why both men were in Delhi.
Harry Boxer is originally from Rajasthan and is closely connected to Lawrence Bishnoi’s brother Anmol. He is thought to have traveled illegally to the United States last year. Since then, the Bishnoi gang has used Boxer to run extortion schemes in India and abroad. Investigators said that Boxer called a businessman in Delhi’s GTB Enclave twice last week, demanding Rs 5 crore as part of extortion.
Lawrence Bishnoi, currently held in high-security prison in Ahmedabad remains linked to serious crimes even from jail. These include the killing of popular Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala in 2022 and threats against Bollywood star Salman Khan.
Police are questioning the arrested men to learn more about their plans and connections to the international extortion network. This arrest is a major step in cracking down on the Bishnoi gang’s growing reach across countries.
