The BJP on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, appointed former Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and national secretary Om Prakash Dhankar as central observers for selecting the party’s leader in the Delhi legislature, who will take over as the next Chief Minister of the National Capital.
Once elected by the BJP MLAs, the new leader will meet Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena at the Raj Niwas to formally stake claim to form the government.
According to a senior party source, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Ministers from BJP-ruled states, NDA leaders, Union Ministers, and other prominent figures will attend the swearing-in ceremony on Thursday, February 20, 2025. The event will be preceded by a cultural program featuring music and performances, with around 30,000 guests invited. BJP leaders and workers from other states who were involved in the Delhi Assembly election campaign have also been invited.
Party leaders have expressed confidence that the leadership will select a suitable candidate for the Chief Ministerial post. The BJP secured a decisive victory in the Delhi Assembly elections on February 8, winning 48 out of 70 seats. However, the party has yet to hold a formal meeting since the results were announced.

Delhi Police has issued an advisory regarding the traffic diversion and restrictions for the oath ceremony of the new Chief Minister of the national capital at Ramleela Ground.
The ceremony will take place on Thursday (February 20, 2025), the advisory said. According to the advisory, many VVIPs/VIPs will attend the oath ceremony at Ram Leela Ground. A large gathering is also expected.
To manage the traffic during this event, certain diversions and restrictions will be in place, the advisory said.
The traffic will be diverted from Subhash Park T-Point, Raj Ghat, Delhi Gate, ITO, Ajmeri Gate, Ranjeet Singh Flyover, Bhabhuti Marg - DDU Marg Red Light, and roundabout Jhandewalan, it stated.
Traffic regulation, diversion and restrictions may be imposed on BSZ Marg (ITO to Delhi Gate), JLN Marg (Delhi Gate to Guru Nanak Chowk), Aruna Asif Ali Road, Minto Road to round about Kamla Market to Hamdard Chowk, Ranjeet Singh Flyover to Turkman Gate, and Ajmeri Gate to round about Kamla Market and surrounding areas from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday (February 20, 2025).
The commuters are instructed to use public transport to help reduce congestion. Park vehicles only in designated parking areas. Avoid roadside parking to ensure smooth traffic flow, it said.

MLA elect and BJP leader Mohan Singh Bisht has said that he could be the new speaker of the Delhi Assembly after the chief minister is announced.
“The party will decide it. It is a fact that a BJP worker will be the (Delhi) CM’s face. The party will assign the responsibility…If I will be (the CM), then I will see what all to be done,” Bisht said to ANI.
He said that if he is chosen the speaker, his “priorities will be smooth conduct of the House and raising important issues of Delhi in the House.”

BJP has announced Rekha Gupta as the next chief minister of Delhi. She will be the fourth female chief minister of the capital after Sheila Dikshit, Sushma Swaraj and Atishi.
Soon after the announcement, celebrations started outside the residence of Rekha Gupta.

Rekha Gupta is an old RSS hand who was part of the Sangh’s students wing, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, and became the DUSU president in the late 1990s.
She was a grass-root leader who rose through the ranks – as a councillor, secretary of BJYM’s Delhi unit, general secretary of Delhi BJP’s Mahila Morcha and a member of the BJP’s National Executive, and a first-time MLA. She is 50 years old.

BJP MLA and Chief Minister-designate Rekha Gupta met Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena Wednesday evening and staked claim to form government in the national capital.
She was accompanied by state BJP observers Ravi Shankar Prasad and OP Dhankar along with city BJP president Virendra Sachdeva, and Delhi MPs including Bansuri Swaraj, Praveen Khandelwal and Kamaljeet Sehrawat.
