The Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday announced the appointment of Bihar minister Nitin Nabin as its National Working President, with the decision taking effect immediately. Nabin currently serves as a minister in the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government, where he holds the Road Construction portfolio.
An official order issued by BJP National General Secretary Arun Singh said the appointment was approved by the party’s Parliamentary Board. “The BJP Parliamentary Board has appointed Shri Nitin Nabin, Minister, Government of Bihar, as the National Working President of the Bharatiya Janata Party,” the order stated.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Nabin on his elevation, describing him as a dedicated worker who has established a distinct identity within the party.
"He is a young and hardworking leader who possesses considerable experience in the organisation. His work as an MLA and minister in Bihar has been very effective, and he has worked with complete dedication to fulfill the aspirations of the people. He is known for his humble nature and for working on the ground," PM Modi said.
The Prime Minister expressed confidence that Nitin Nabin's energy and commitment will further strengthen the party in the times ahead.
Nabin, the five-term Bihar MLA who belongs to the Kayastha community, is likely to succeed incumbent BJP chief JP Nadda.
The organisational reshuffle comes at a time when the party is transitioning its top leadership structure. Incumbent BJP national president JP Nadda, who was appointed to the post in January 2020, has already completed his original term. Nadda was granted multiple extensions to steer the party through crucial political milestones, including the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
JP Nadda also congratulated Nabin on the elevation, calling his a "dynamic BJP leader from Bihar". He wished him "a successful and illustrious tenure".
"I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Nitin Nabin ji, the dynamic BJP leader from Bihar, the sacred land of knowledge and culture, and a minister in the Bihar government, on his appointment as the National Executive President of the Bharatiya Janata Party. I am fully confident that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji and your leadership, the organisation will set new benchmarks in nation-building and public service," JP Nadda said in a post on X.
Born on May 23, 1980, in Ranchi, Jharkhand, Nitin Nabin comes from a family with deep political roots. He is the son of late Nabin Kishore Prasad Sinha, a veteran BJP leader and former MLA. Nabin entered active politics following his father’s demise and steadily rose through the party ranks.
A five-time MLA from the Bankipur Assembly constituency in Patna, Nabin first entered the Bihar Assembly through a by-election in 2006 and has retained the seat in every subsequent election in 2010, 2015, 2020, and 2025. In the 2025 Bihar Assembly polls, he secured another decisive victory from Bankipur, winning by a margin of over 52,000 votes.
Alongside his ministerial roles in the Bihar government, Nabin has held several key organisational positions within the BJP, including national general secretary and state president of the BJP Yuva Morcha, election and organisational in-charge for Sikkim, and senior organisational responsibilities in Chhattisgarh, cementing his position as a leader with both administrative and organisational experience.
According to the election affidavit filed by Nitin Nabin before the Election Commission in October, his movable assets include cash in hand, bank deposits, insurance policies and investments, while immovable assets comprise residential property and land holdings.
On criminal antecedents, the affidavit states that no conviction has been recorded against him. Where applicable, case-related columns either mention “nil” or provide court-wise details along with current status, as mandated under election rules.
