A prominent Indian-origin technology leader has allegedly been shot dead and her son severely injured following a violent domestic dispute at a residential property in Cobb County, Georgia. The victim, 57-year-old Sheetal Wrzesien, was a senior engineering manager at Google with more than two decades of experience in the global technology sector.
Local police authorities responded to reports of gunfire at the family’s residence on Laurel Creek Trail near Smyrna just before 8:00 pm on Tuesday. Upon arrival, emergency responders discovered the couple’s 23-year-old son, Jason Wrzesien, outside the house suffering from critical gunshot wounds. Inside the home, officers located Sheetal Wrzesien, who was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple ballistic injuries.
The suspect, 56-year-old Kirk B Wrzesien—the victim’s husband—was apprehended by law enforcement officers at the residence without further incident. He is currently being held without bond at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.
The Cobb County Police Department has confirmed that the fatal shooting stemmed entirely from an escalating domestic confrontation within the household. Arraignment documents reveal that the suspect faces five major criminal counts:
Homicide: One count of felony murder.
Aggravated Assault: Two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, relating to the attacks on both his wife and son.
Weapons Offences: Two counts of illegally possessing a firearm during the commission of a felony.
While the surviving son was rushed to a local medical facility for emergency surgery, his current medical status has not been publicly updated by health authorities.
The tragedy has sent shockwaves through both the local Georgia community and the international tech sector. Sheetal Wrzesien was a highly respected figure in the Atlanta technology landscape, having spent her youth across England, India, and Ghana before relocating to the United States.
She graduated with a degree in Computer Science from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1994 and subsequently carved out an illustrious career. Prior to her leadership role at Google, she directed large-scale mobile and e-commerce digital transformation initiatives for major American retail corporations, including The Home Depot.
Beyond her professional achievements, she served on the academic advisory board for Georgia Tech’s College of Computing and was widely recognised as a passionate mentor who championed programmes encouraging women to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.
