A surgeon of Indian-origin, Amal Bose, 54, faces multiple charges of sexual assault at Blackpool Victoria Hospital in Lancashire, northwest England. Bose, formerly head of the hospital's cardiovascular surgery department, has been suspended by the National Health Service (NHS) trust after allegations from employees, prompting a police investigation in March last year.

Lancashire Police have charged Bose with 14 counts of sexual assault, in violation of Section 3 of the Sexual Offences Act 2003, involving six female victims spanning from 2017 to 2022.

Some of the charges encompass multiple incidents, as stated by a police spokesperson.

Released on bail, Bose is scheduled to appear at Lancaster Magistrates’ Court on June 7.

All the alleged victims were staff members of Blackpool Victoria Hospital, according to Lancashire Police.

The hospital notified authorities on March 14 last year, reporting several allegations of sexual assault by employees. Subsequent investigations and consultations with the Crown Prosecution Service led to the charges against Bose.

Before these complaints surfaced, Bose held the position of head of the cardiovascular surgery department at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

A spokesperson for the Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, responsible for managing the hospital, confirmed the charges and emphasised their cooperation with the police investigation.
