Actor-comedian Rajpal Yadav has finally spoken out after a joke made by journalist and host Saurabh Dwivedi at a recent award show sparked online outrage. The remark, which referred to Yadav’s financial troubles linked to a cheque bounce case, did not sit well with a section of the internet, with many calling the joke insensitive.

In a video message shared on social media, Rajpal Yadav made it clear that the segment was meant as part of a skit and should not be taken in a negative spirit. He said the event had a light-hearted atmosphere, with dance, music and performances, and that the humour was meant to be in the same spirit as other stage acts often seen at such functions.

Yadav also requested people not to attack Saurabh Dwivedi or co-host Zakir Khan online. Calling them his younger brothers, he said both artists have always shown him respect and are very close to his heart. He added that hurting Saurabh would be like hurting him. His message came across as a call for restraint at a time when social media criticism was already building.

The controversy began after Dwivedi joked that no matter how much the dollar or rupee fluctuates, Yadav would still have to return the money he owed. The comment quickly triggered a wave of reactions online, with many users accusing the host of crossing the line by making light of Yadav’s personal legal troubles.

Adding to the discussion, Salman Khan also reacted to the matter earlier and reminded Yadav of his long-standing contribution to the industry. In his response, Salman encouraged him to stay focused on his work and said that his talent and value in the industry had always been recognized.

Audience reactions to the episode have been divided. While some viewers felt the joke was unnecessary and in poor taste, others defended it as part of a scripted comic performance that was meant to be taken casually. Still, Rajpal Yadav’s calm and gracious response has drawn appreciation from many, who praised him for choosing dignity over conflict.

His statement has now helped cool down the debate, even as the incident continues to be discussed widely on social media.
