After 22 years, eight seasons and 161 episodes, Karan Johar is finally saying goodbye to the couch that turned celebrity gossip, rapid-fire questions and awkward confessions into prime-time pop culture.
Johar has announced that Season 9 of Koffee With Karan will be the show's final season, with the last chapter premiering on JioHotstar on October 14, 2026.
Koffee With Karan first premiered in 2004, with Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol as its first guests.
What began as Karan Johar's idea for an informal celebrity chat quickly became one of Indian entertainment's most recognisable talk shows. Over the years, its couch became a place for celebrity friendships, relationships, breakups, controversial revelations and, of course, the infamous rapid-fire round.
And yes, the show often became the news itself.
In an interview with Variety, Johar described the decision as “emotional and personal” and said he wants to spend the next decade focusing more on directing films and telling stories.
In his farewell message, Johar looked back at the show's extraordinary run, acknowledging the controversies, trolling and conversations that followed it while thanking the audience that continued to return.
The filmmaker has framed the final season as a final celebration rather than simply an ending — one last cup of Koffee with the audience that made the show what it became.
From celebrity romances to friendships and viral moments, Koffee With Karan became more than a talk show.
Its rapid-fire answers regularly sparked social-media debates, while some celebrity conversations became entertainment headlines in their own right. The show also became closely associated with conversations around nepotism, celebrity culture and Bollywood's inner circle.
Now, after more than two decades, the coffee mug is going up for the final time.
