Actor Mona Singh has opened up about shooting her much-talked-about kissing scene with Bobby Deol in Aryan Khan’s directorial debut, The Ba***ds of Bollywood*. The series, which marked Shah Rukh Khan’s son’s first step behind the camera, continues to grab headlines — and Mona’s latest revelation has added fresh fuel to the buzz.
While promoting her upcoming film Thodhe Door Thode Paas, Mona spoke to Zoom and recalled how filming that intimate moment wasn’t as glamorous as it looked.
“I actually kissed a man dressed in a full blue costume!” she laughed. “I died seeing that outfit, but Aryan was so clear about what he wanted. He guided me through every move. It was tricky, but the result looked fantastic.”
Mona praised Aryan’s directorial vision, describing him as confident, composed, and meticulous on set.
“Aryan was sure of every frame — from tone to camera angles. That slow-motion shot without background music worked wonders. You instantly want to rewatch it,” she added.
One of Aryan Khan’s boldest creative choices was reinterpreting the iconic Bobby Deol number Duniya Haseeno Ka Mela from Gupt (1997), retitled Sailab in the series. Mona revealed she had to match the original choreography shot-by-shot.
“It was challenging! Aryan digitally inserted me into the archival footage, and I had to dance as if Bobby was right there. His attention to detail is exceptional,” she said.
Despite his sharp creative instincts, Mona described Aryan as cheerful and grounded off-camera.
“He’s always laughing, sharing food, and joking around. We tried making him smile at the premiere, but he didn’t — he has an image to maintain,” she joked.
After the show’s finale aired, Mona’s phone was flooded with messages.
“Everyone called me late at night saying, ‘What just happened?!’ The climax shocked everyone — even me,” she said with a laugh.
She also praised a powerful scene between Raghav Juyal and Emraan Hashmi, calling it one of her favorites.
The series features Mona Singh as Neeta, mother to aspiring actor Aasmaan Singh (Lakshay Lalwani). The story takes a shocking turn when Aasmaan falls for Karishma Talwar (Sahher Bamba), unaware that he’s actually the illegitimate son of superstar Ajay Talwar (Bobby Deol) and Neeta herself.
The ensemble cast includes Raghav Juyal, Anya Singh, Rajat Bedi, Manoj Pahwa, and Karan Johar, with special appearances by Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, SS Rajamouli, and Emraan Hashmi.
With its biting satire and bold storytelling, The Ba**ds of Bollywood* firmly establishes Aryan Khan as a daring new voice in Indian cinema — and as Mona Singh’s candid confessions prove, the making of it was just as fascinating as what unfolded on screen.
