The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed closure reports in two cases related to the death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, sources said. The reports were submitted to a Mumbai court, concluding that no evidence was found to establish any foul play behind his death.

The CBI took over the investigation in August 2020 following an FIR filed by Sushant's father, KK Singh, in Patna. He had accused actress Rhea Chakraborty and others of abetment to suicide, financial fraud, and mental harassment. In response, Rhea Chakraborty filed a counter-complaint in Mumbai, alleging that Sushant's sisters had obtained a fake medical prescription for him.

After years of investigation, the CBI has now filed closure reports in both cases, indicating that their probe did not uncover any criminal conspiracy or wrongdoing leading to Sushant's death.

Sushant, 34, was found dead at his Bandra residence on June 14, 2020, sparking a major controversy. The investigation was later handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation. His postmortem report, conducted at Mumbai's Cooper Hospital, stated the cause of death was asphyxia.

Ahead of the Bombay High Court hearing on the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) related to his son Sushant Singh Rajput's death last month, KK Singh expressed hope for justice under the new Maharashtra government.

Singh, who has long maintained that Sushant could not have died by suicide, voiced his disappointment with the CBI's probe, stating that the agency "didn't do its job on time." However, he remained optimistic about the court proceedings, saying, "I hope that whatever comes out of the court will be right. And hopefully, it will come out soon."

Reflecting on the emotional toll of losing his only son, Singh said it was natural to feel overwhelmed even after five years. He acknowledged the media's reports regarding Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aditya Thackeray's alleged connection to the case but stated that the truth would be determined in court.

"We also listened to the media, but we don't know what the reality is. Now, it will be decided in court. Those people will know. We can say that Sushant Singh would not have committed suicide," he added.
