On 18th August 1945, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose died in an airplane crash in Taiwan. The Indian nationalist was born to a wealthy family in Cuttack, Orissa. Netaji was strongly influenced by Swami's Vivekanand's teaching when he was a student. Later he came under the influence of Gandhiji and joined the Indian National Congress.Bose was a prominent figure in the Indian Independence Movement and always believed for complete and unconditional independence of India from British Rule."Tum Mujhe Khoon Do, Main Tumhe Aazadi Dunga", his famous quote continues to bring an undeniable spirit of patriotism in Indians.Often at loggerheads with Gandhi because of contradictory political opinions, he shared an affectionate relation with him regardless. He is said to have died in a plane crash at the Japanese-controlled Matsuyama military airport in Taihoku (now Taiwan). However, many believed he escaped his death and was alive for many years, living in isolation. Even after 75 years of Independence, the controversy around his death remains the same.Nevertheless, August 18 is observed as Subhash Chandra Bose’s death anniversary.
