It inaugurated a new age in electronic communications.The satellite was made by a collaboration between organisations in the U.S., the U.K., and France, and transmitted the first live television images in the world.It remained active for only 7 months, a much shorter service life than today's artificial satellites. Although it no longer works, it is still in the Earth’s orbit.
