Two Australian women cricketers, participating in the ongoing ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 in India, were reportedly followed, and one was molested by a man on a motorcycle in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, police said on Saturday.

The suspect was arrested on Friday in connection with the incident, which took place on Thursday morning near Khajrana Road, an official confirmed.

Sub-Inspector Nidhi Raghuvanshi revealed that the two cricketers had left their hotel and were walking towards a cafe when a man on a motorcycle started following them.

He allegedly touched one of them inappropriately before speeding off, she added.

The cricketers immediately informed their team security officer, Danny Simmons, who contacted local security liaison officers and arranged for a vehicle to assist them.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Himani Mishra later met the two players, recorded their statements, and registered a First Information Report under sections 74 (use of criminal force to outrage a woman’s modesty) and 78 (stalking) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the MIG police station.

A bystander who witnessed the incident noted down the motorcycle’s registration number, which helped police trace and arrest the suspect, identified as Akil Khan.

“Khan has previous criminal cases against him, and the investigation is underway," Mishra said.
