BCCI says no change, India-Sri Lanka ODI stays in Delhi

Reports claimed that the ODI, slated to be held in New Delhi, has been moved to Ahmedabad.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia on Monday dismissed speculation that the first ODI of the upcoming three-match series against Sri Lanka had been shifted from Delhi to Ahmedabad.

Clarifying the matter in a brief statement, Saikia said Delhi had been allotted the December 13 fixture under the board’s standard policy, adding that there had been no change in the venue.

“Reports suggesting that the India–Sri Lanka ODI match scheduled in Delhi may be shifted to Ahmedabad are not accurate. There has been no such decision by the BCCI," Saikia was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

“Further, it needs to be reiterated that bilateral matches are primarily allotted by following a standard policy," he added.

The speculation came amid reports that the match could be moved to Ahmedabad, which is scheduled to host the series-deciding ODI on December 19, owing to ongoing construction work at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium.

In addition to the three ODIs, Sri Lanka are also scheduled to play a three-match T20 International series during the tour.
