Isro to get new chief: Dr V Narayanan to take over from S Somnath on Jan 14

Distinguished Scientist at Isro, Dr V Narayanan is currently the Director of the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC).

Dr V Narayanan has been named as the next chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro), an official notification said on Tuesday. He will take over from the incumbent S Somnath as Isro chief on January 14.

Distinguished Scientist at Isro, Dr V Narayanan is currently the Director of the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC). With a career spanning nearly four decades, he has held various key positions within the Indian space organisation. Dr Narayanan's expertise lies in rocket and spacecraft propulsion.

One of his significant accomplishments was as the Project Director for the C25 Cryogenic Project of the GSLV Mk Ill vehicle. Under his leadership, the team successfully developed the C25 Stage, a vital component of GSLV Mk III.

Throughout his tenure, the LPSC, under Dr Narayanan's guidance, delivered 183 Liquid Propulsion Systems and Control Power plants for various Isro missions.

Notably, he oversaw the realisation of the 2nd and 4th Stages of PSLV, along with control power plants for PSLV C57. He also contributed to the propulsion systems for the Aditya Spacecraft and GSLV Mk-Ill missions, Chandrayaan-2 and Chandrayaan-3.

The Isro scientist has been recognised with numerous awards and honours, including the Silver Medal from lIT Kharagpur, a Gold Medal from the Astronautical Society of India (ASI), and the National Design Award from NDRF.
