Apple has increased prices of its MacBook and iPad lineup in India, with some models seeing a steep jump of up to Rs 1 lakh. The revised pricing comes just a few days after Apple's CEO Tim Cook recently announced that price hikes are coming because they are unavoidable right now. The credit for this can be given to rising memory costs in the global supply chain. The price revision is already visible on Apple’s India website, where multiple MacBook models are now listed at significantly higher prices compared to their launch tags. The move affects both MacBook Air and MacBook Pro variants, along with Apple’s newly introduced budget laptop segment.
The MacBook Air with M5 chip, which was launched in India at Rs 1,19,900, is now listed at Rs 1,49,900. This marks a jump of Rs 30,000 in a short span of time. Similarly, the 15-inch MacBook Air variant, which was earlier announced at Rs 1,44,900, now carries a price tag of Rs 1,79,900, showing an increase of Rs 35,000.
The price revision is even sharper in the MacBook Pro lineup. The base 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 chip and 16GB RAM, which was launched at Rs 1,69,900, is now listed at Rs 2,39,900. This translates into a steep increase of Rs 70,000, making it one of the most notable price adjustments across Apple’s recent portfolio in India.
Even Apple’s more affordable segment has not been left untouched. The MacBook Neo, which was introduced as the company’s most budget-friendly laptop option, has seen a price hike of Rs 10,000. This model was expected to attract first-time buyers and students, but the revised pricing now puts it slightly higher than its initial positioning suggested. In the case of the M5 Max variant of the MacBook Pro (14-inch), the price has been increased by Rs 1 lakh.
The 11-inch iPad Air with the M4 processor will now cost you Rs 89,900. To recall, the same tablet was announced in India at Rs 64,900. This means that Apple has hiked the price of this iPad by Rs 25,000. Similarly, the iPad Pro has also become more costlier, with the M5 chip and base 256GB storage now costing Rs 1,39,900 in India. It was introduced last year at Rs 99,990. So, Apple has increased the price by Rs 39,910.
MacBook Air 13-inch (M5): Launch price - Rs 1,19,900, new price Rs 1,49,900 (price increase by 30,000)
MacBook Air 15-inch: From Rs 1,44,900 to now Rs 1,79,900 (price increase by 35,000)
MacBook Pro 14-inch (M5, 16GB RAM): From Rs 1,69,900 to now Rs 2,39,900 (price increase by Rs 70,000)
MacBook Neo: From Rs 69,900 to Rs 79,900, now higher by Rs 10,000
MacBook Pro 14-inch (M5 Max variant): Increased by Rs 1,00,000
iPad Air 11-inch (M4): From Rs 64,900 to now Rs 89,900 (price increase by Rs 25,000)
iPad Pro (256GB, M5): From Rs 99,990 to now Rs 1,39,900 (price increase by Rs 39,910)
The iPad Air now starts at $749 instead of $599, while the iPad Pro has moved up to $1,199 from $999. Higher-end desktop-class machines are also seeing sharp increases, with Mac Studio models moving significantly upward in price in global markets.
Apple has revised pricing for its MacBook lineup, starting with the new MacBook Neo, which now begins at $699 compared to its earlier launch price of $599.
The base MacBook Air has also seen an increase, with its price moving up to $1,299 from $1,099. In addition, the 14-inch MacBook Pro has become costlier as well, now priced at $1,999 instead of the earlier $1,699.
These changes come shortly after Apple CEO Tim Cook had cautioned that price increases were becoming difficult to avoid due to ongoing pressures in component supply chains, especially memory. Industry tracking suggests that the shortage and rising cost of high-performance memory modules have started to directly impact final device pricing across multiple categories.
For Apple, memory is a critical part of its product strategy, especially as newer Macs and iPads are increasingly configured with higher base RAM and unified memory architecture. With supply tightening and contract pricing moving upward, manufacturers are passing on a part of that cost to end users.
In a statement given to India Today Tech, Apple said, “We have never seen a component price increase this much, this quickly. We have shielded our customers from these increases so far, but we have now reached a point where we need to begin raising prices on a number of products, including today's increases for iPad and Mac."
In India, the impact is more visible because of the already premium pricing structure of Apple products. A 30,000 to 70,000 jump within weeks of launch is unusual even for the Mac lineup, which typically sees stable pricing after introduction. The revised pricing is likely to influence buying decisions, especially for students, professionals upgrading from older Macs, and users considering entry into the Apple ecosystem.
The price hike from Apple is a reality check on the current market scenario, according to Cybermedia Research's Vice President, Prabhu Ram. Speaking to India Today Tech, Ram said, “Price increases are already becoming visible across multiple consumer electronics categories. Even Apple, long regarded as the industry’s benchmark for supply chain resilience, has begun passing higher component costs on to consumers. That is a strong signal that pricing pressures have reached a level that even the most sophisticated absorption strategies cannot fully offset. For OEMs with less scale and supply chain leverage, the impact is likely to be even more pronounced.”
At the same time, Apple’s strategy suggests it is prioritising component availability and configuration stability over maintaining earlier price points. With demand for high-performance laptops continuing to grow globally, the company appears to be adjusting pricing in line with supply-side realities rather than regional market expectations.
