A group of six men accused of manhandling a woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar on Monday endured the wrath of the internet not only for their actions but also for their dramatic, “Oscar-worthy act” following their arrest.

The group has been accused of allegedly stripping off a woman’s hijab and assaulting a Hindu man accompanying her. A video of the incident triggered massive outrage after it went viral on social media.

The woman, in the meantime, filed a complaint, following which the group was arrested. At the police station, the accused were seen limping, barely able to walk, as cops escorted them - prompting widespread mockery on social media.

Slamming their theatrics, social media users emphasised that the accused weren’t limping but “clearly acting”.

In the video of the assault, one of the accused was seen snatching the woman's hijab, while others verbally abused, harassed, and physically assaulted her along with the man who was with her.

The incident occurred when Farheen, 20, and Sachin were on their way to collect a loan instalment. A bystander who witnessed the attack recorded the incident and shared the video on X.

Police officials rushed to the spot upon receiving information and escorted both Farheen and Sachin safely to the police station.

A case was registered under relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita after Farheen filed a complaint.
