The West Bengal government had denied permission for RSS rally in Burdwan, following which the organisation moved the Calcutta High Court.

The Calcutta High Court on Friday granted permission to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to hold rally in West Bengal, saying that the "sound should be kept low." The order comes a day after the RSS moved the High Court after the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government denied them permission to use the public address system at the Sarsanghchalak Bhagwat's public meeting in Burdwan.

The court said the rally should be conducted in a manner that does not cause inconvenience to the examinees and ensure the sound is kept to the minimum level. The Jan Sabha of Mohan Bhagwat is scheduled for February 16.

The district administration had earlier denied permission for the use of microphone in the said public meeting, citing the ongoing Madhyamik examinations in the state.

Justice Amrita Sinha said that since it is a Sunday and the event will last only 1 hour and 15 minutes, the court does not think that it will cause inconvenience to anyone. It has been ordered to be conducted peacefully and the sound should be kept as low as possible.

The High Court's ruling comes as a big setback for the state government as it had denied permission to use the public address system or loudspeakers at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) grounds. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) government had cited the ongoing Class 10 board examinations in the state.
