Singer-rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh has told the Delhi High Court that he did not perform his controversial track Volume 1 at a March 2025 concert, distancing himself from allegations raised in a petition.

The matter came up during a hearing on a plea filed by Hindu Shakti Dal, which has sought the removal of the song from the internet, alleging it is vulgar and derogatory towards women.

Appearing for Honey Singh, senior advocate Rajshekhar Rao told the court that no such performance took place. “No such event happened. I did not sing," Singh said through his counsel, rejecting claims that he performed the song at a concert at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium on March 1, 2025.

The court directed the singer to file an affidavit formally placing his stand on record to address the allegations.

In an earlier order dated April 2, Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav had directed that the song be taken down from online platforms, observing that “no civilised society can allow creation of such a song."

The court had also remarked that the lyrics were “grossly vulgar, patently obscene, deeply derogatory towards women and wholly bereft of any redeeming artistic, literary or social value."

During the latest proceedings, the court also directed the Centre to place on record compliance with its earlier takedown order.

The case has been posted for further hearing on May 19, with the affidavit expected to clarify Honey Singh’s position and help resolve the controversy surrounding the alleged performance.

The petition continues to seek the deletion of all videos and audio versions of the song from digital platforms.
