A female teacher of one of Mumbai’s best-known schools was arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on charges of sexually assaulting one of her students.

The incident came to light after the victim student complained about the teacher to his family. Following which, the student’s family lodged a complaint.

The accused female teacher came in contact with the victim boy while teaching a group dance for the school’s annual function.

The teacher also took the boy out to various five-star hotels in Mumbai, sources reported.

According to a report published in Hindustan Times, the assaults spanned a little over a year. The teacher came in contact with the student during December 2023 and made her first sexual overtures in January 2024.

When the boy initially resisted and avoided her, the teacher reportedly enlisted a female friend, not part of the school, to persuade him. The friend allegedly told the minor that relationships between older women and teenage boys were “quite common" and that he and the teacher were “made for each other," HT cited an investigating officer. The female friend has also been charged in the matter.

Following the intervention of his friend, the student agreed to meet the teacher. The police claim that she drove him to an isolated location in her sedan, where she “forcefully undressed and assaulted him." Reportedly, the teacher would often get him drunk before the abuse.

The boy later developed severe anxiety and the teacher allegedly gave him anti-anxiety pills, HT reported, citing police official.

Police said the incident came to light when the student’s family noticed a change in behaviour and confronted him. Knowing what happened with the boy, the family decided to not report the incident as he would soon graduate from school and hoped that the teacher would ultimately stop bothering him.

The situation turned worse when the student left school after clearing his board examinations, but was again contacted by the teacher.

The teacher contacted the student through one of her domestic staff and asked him to meet her. The teen’s family then decided to approach us and register a case, police informed.
