The Delhi High Court on Tuesday directed X (formerly Twitter) to unblock the account of the satirical Cockroach Janta Party after the Centre informed the court that it no longer had any objection to the account being accessible. The government said its earlier concerns were linked to the conduct of the NEET-UG 2026 examination, which has now concluded.
The Delhi High Court on Tuesday ordered the restoration of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) account on X (formerly Twitter), bringing an end to the Centre's blocking order after the Union government told the court that it no longer had any objection to the account being restored.
Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma passed the order while hearing a petition filed by CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, who had challenged the government's decision to block the satirical group's X account. The court noted that the Centre's primary concern was no longer relevant as the NEET-UG 2026 examination had already concluded.
According to the Central government, the account had been blocked over concerns that certain posts could create confusion and panic among students and parents during the conduct of the NEET-UG 2026 examination and its re-examination process.
Appearing for the Centre, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed the court that since the examination was over, the government no longer objected to the restoration of the account.
Taking note of the government's submission, the Delhi High Court observed that the reason behind the blocking order no longer existed.
The court consequently revoked the Centre's blocking order and directed that the Cockroach Janta Party's X account be restored.
The matter reached the Delhi High Court after founder Abhijeet Dipke challenged the blocking of the account.
In an earlier hearing held in May, the court had declined to order an immediate restoration of the account. Instead, it directed the Review Committee under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to examine the blocking order and submit its decision before the next hearing.
The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) is a satirical online movement that gained widespread attention after remarks made during a court hearing referring to online activists as "cockroaches." The movement rapidly attracted millions of followers on social media before its X account was blocked by the government.
With Tuesday's order, the account is set to be restored, concluding the legal challenge over its suspension for now.
