BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari’s Personal Assistant, Chandranath Rath, was shot dead in Madhyamgram in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, people familiar with the matter told.

As per the information available, multiple shots were fired targeting Rath. The assailants, who arrived on a motorcycle, opened fire when he was sitting inside a black Scorpio, they said.

Soon after the incident, the Madhyamgram police rushed to the spot to initiate an investigation into the matter. At present, Chandranath Rath’s body is kept at Mega City Hospital in Madhyamgram.

Sources stated that Suvendu Adhikari — a prominent BJP leader who won the West Bengal Election from Nandigram and Bhabanipur — is reaching the spot to take stock of the situation.
