When a woman booked an Uber ride in Guwahati, little did she know it would turn into a nightmare. Maini Mahanta requested the driver to turn on the AC, citing her dust allergy. However, the driver refused, stating that she had not booked an AC ride, and even told her to get down if she wanted air conditioning.

She further alleged that the driver stopped the car on a deserted road, verbally abused her, attempted to manhandle her, and forced her out of the vehicle. Fearing for her safety, she exited the car on the isolated stretch late at night and called for help. The incident left her traumatised, and she later filed an FIR at the Dispur Police Station.

“Yesterday night, I booked an Uber Premier in Guwahati. I asked the driver to turn on the AC but he refused saying “I have not booked an AC ride". When I requested him to turn it on due to my dust allergy he rudely told me to get down if I wanted AC," Mahanta said.

She continued, “I called my husband to enquire if Uber has any such categories, the driver stopped the car on a deserted road, hurled abuses, tried to manhandle me and forced me out of the vehicle."

“Fearing my life, I got down and had to call for help in the middle of a deserted road at night," the woman shared.

Mahanta further revealed that the incident left her so traumatised that she had to be hospitalised afterwards. She added that she had filed an FIR at the Dispur Police Station regarding the matter.

After the matter came to light, Himanta Biswa Sarma instructed the Assam Police to take immediate action.

Earlier this month, a Gurugram woman was left terrified for her life after receiving a chilling message from her Uber driver moments before her ride in the wee hours. The woman informed the driver that she was at the pickup location and mentioned her drop-off point as Anand Vihar Terminal Railway Station. That’s when the driver shockingly said, “Go to Anand Vihar. I want to go to kidnap you happily."
