A leader of the Aam Aadmi Party was shot dead outside a gurdwara in the Model Town area of Jalandhar, Punjab, in a shocking incident that has triggered panic and heightened security concerns across the city.
The deceased was identified as Lucky Oberoi, a local leader of the Aam Aadmi Party.
According to initial reports, Oberoi was fired at multiple times and sustained five bullet injuries.
He was immediately rushed to a private hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The shooting occurred outside a Gurdwara Sahib in the busy Model Town locality, an area that soon witnessed the arrival of senior police officials and emergency responders.
Following the incident, the police cordoned off the area around the gurdwara and began collecting forensic evidence from the spot.
Visuals from the spot showed police personnel securing the perimeter, restricting public movement near the gurdwara and inspecting the surrounding lanes.
Officers were questioning local residents and shopkeepers, while teams reviewed nearby CCTV footage in an effort to trace the attackers and reconstruct the sequence of events leading up to the killing.
Witness statements were being recorded, and the motive behind the attack was yet to be established.
It is noteworthy that Oberoi’s wife had previously contested the municipal elections on an AAP ticket, though she was defeated.
Oberoi himself was known to be a close aide of the Cantt constituency in-charge Rajwinder Kaur Thiara.
No arrests have yet been made in the case.
