The iconic Sher-e-Punjab restaurant in Manali has been almost completely destroyed after severe flooding hit the tourist town, leaving only the front wall near the gate standing.
The powerful currents of the overflowing Beas River washed away most of the buildings, symbolising the scale of destruction caused by the relentless floods.
A video going viral on social media shows the whole Sher-e-Punjab restaurant destroyed but its frontal standing intact.
On Tuesday, the floodwaters intensified, washing away four shops and a fully-loaded heavy-duty truck, which has since vanished without a trace.
Heavy rainfall triggered the Beas River to overflow, sweeping away shops, homes, and even a multi-storey hotel across Manali. Several buildings collapsed, and low-lying residential areas were submerged.
The Manali-Leh highway, a vital artery for travel and trade, was blocked at multiple points as significant stretches between Kullu and Manali were washed away, bringing vehicular movement to a complete halt. Authorities have closed the highway for all traffic until further notice, affecting both civilian and logistical operations.
Floodwaters also inundated the Alu Ground area, further escalating concerns. Hundreds of residents are stranded without power or connectivity as emergency services scramble to provide relief.
