According to a social media post, Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran said the Tata Group will provide Rs 1 crore to the each of the families who have lost their loved ones. All medical expenses of those injured in the accident will also be covered, it said.

Chandrasekaran expressed his grief at the tragic incident involving Air India flight 171, which was carrying 242 people, including 230 passengers and 12 crew members. At least 61 passengers were foreign nationals, Air India said in a statement.

“We are deeply anguished by the tragic event involving Air India Flight 171. No words can adequately express the grief we feel at this moment. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost their loved ones, and with those who have been injured," Chandrasekaran said in a post on X by Tata Group.

We remain steadfast in standing with the affected families and communities during this unimaginable time," the post added.

The FAIMA Doctors Association said the wife of a resident doctor was reported to be dead even as four to five MBBS students and three to four relatives of resident doctors went missing. While two to three students are in intensive care, at least 50 students, who were hospitalised, are stable as of now.
