NEW DELHI: Delhi's Saket Court on Tuesday, 9 May, framed charges of murder, as well as of disappearance of evidence, against the accused Aaftab Poonawala in the Shraddha Walkar murder case.

Poonawalla is alleged to have killed 26-year-old Walkar in May 2022.

He has, however, has plead not guilty, reported Livelaw. His case will now be going for trial.

What did the court say? As per Bar and Bench, Additional Sessions Judge Manisha Khurana said:

  • “Prime facie case of Section 302 (murder) is made out and charges will be framed”

  • "Secondly, knowing that an offence has been committed and to screen yourself from punishment you cut the body and threw the body parts at various places...you committed offence under 201 IPC (causing disappearance of evidence...)”

Bakground:

Harrowing allegations pertaining to the manner in which Poonawalla is accused of having carried out the crime and attempted to hide the evidence had emerged in November 2022.

The police were then investigating a missing person complaint.

The Delhi Police had earlier told the court that incriminating circumstances are clearly revealed through reliable and clinching evidence and they form a chain of events. A charge sheet running over 6,000 pages was filed in the case.
