In a tragic incident that unfolded in Bengaluru‘s Kothanur area, a young techie couple died by suicide within a short span of each other, police said on Tuesday. The case has left investigators piecing together the final moments leading up to the couple’s deaths.

Bhanu Chander Reddy, 32, was discovered dead inside a locked bedroom of the couple’s apartment on Tuesday morning. Minutes later, his wife, Bibi Shaziya Siraj, 31, died after allegedly jumping from the 18th floor of the same residential complex.

According to police, Shaziya had just returned home from her night shift around 7:30 am when she realised her husband was not responding. Concerned, she alerted the building’s security staff, informing them that the bedroom door was locked from the inside. The guards forced the door open and found Reddy’s body inside. A suicide note was recovered from a table at the scene.

Investigators said Shaziya remained in the apartment for a brief period as neighbours gathered and emergency services were contacted, said a Times Of India report. “We are told she was around for 20 minutes after the body was discovered," TOI quoted an officer as saying. Amid the commotion, she is believed to have quietly left, taken the lift to the 18th floor, and jumped.

In his suicide note, Reddy reportedly cited job loss and worsening anxiety as key reasons behind his decision. Police said he had earlier worked in the United States, earning an annual package of around Rs 80 lakh.

“According to Reddy’s family, he had purchased a small house in US and built another in Telangana for his family. However, due to AI, he lost the job and this shattered him. His anxiety increased when failed to secure another job. But his family and wife were supportive," an investigating officer reportedly said.

The couple had moved to Bengaluru roughly eight months ago after Shaziya secured employment with multinational tech firm IBM. Reddy had returned to India after losing his job in the US and had since been searching for new opportunities.

Police said that on Sunday night, shortly before Shaziya left Hyderabad, the couple had spoken over the phone. During the conversation, Reddy mentioned he had ordered dinner online and would eat shortly.

Married for about 2.5 years, the couple had kept their relationship largely private. Investigators, citing friends and colleagues, said only Reddy’s parents were aware of the marriage, while Shaziya had not disclosed it to her own family.

Initially based in Hyderabad, the couple reportedly faced difficulties due to the secrecy surrounding their marriage, prompting their move to Bengaluru. They had been living on the eighth floor of Tower 6 in an apartment complex on Thanisandra Main Road.

Police said Reddy had been struggling with anxiety following his unemployment after returning to India. Further investigation into the incident is ongoing.
