A fun outing in Rishikesh turned into a nightmare for a young man named Sonu Kumar after a bungee jump went wrong. While jumping at an adventure spot called Thrill Factory, the rope holding him suddenly broke. A CCTV camera recorded the exact moment he fell. Sonu, who was with his friends, was rushed to AIIMS Rishikesh for help. Doctors later shared that he suffered major injuries in his chest and left arm and his condition remains serious.
Soon after the incident, Tehri Garhwal DM Nikita Khandelwal ordered a full inquiry. All activities at the spot have been stopped until the investigation is done. She also asked for a safety check of every company that runs adventure sports in the area.
Eyewitness Says Site Had No Ambulance On Standby
A person who captured the incident on his phone shared a shocking detail about what happened right after the fall. According to him, the Thrill Factory team did not have an ambulance. Seeing Sonu Kumar’s injury, he decided to take the youngster to AIIMS Rishikesh in his own vehicle. He said Sonu was in severe pain and bleeding when they rushed him for treatment.
The video posted on X came with the caption, “Avoid Adventure Sports in India. Authorities Don’t Inspect. Operators Don’t Care. Zero Safety Gear, Zero Standards. Just pure gamble with your life. One accident and they’ll blame ‘fate,’ not their negligence. Stay away."
Social Media Users Slam Poor Safety At Adventure Spots
Reacting to the post, a user wrote, “Deaths during adventure sports are rising in India with no binding rules for safety or equipment checks. Many operators work without the required training or proper licences, leaving tourists at risk. Enforcement is almost absent and most accidents are met with shrugs, not justice."
Another shared, “Shocking. rope snaps, no ambulance – pure negligence. Adventure spots need strict safety checks now."
“Even worse is that health insurance will not cover this," a comment read.
An individual stated, “I had such a bad experience in Solang Valley while paragliding. Our parachute was caught over a tree. They don’t have a system to remove us from the tree. We were injured more in that process. After that, they didn’t have any infrastructure to take us to the hospital or any first Aid."
Another mentioned, “This is why people go to foreign countries for a tour, where you get better Infrastructure, environment, rules and regulations."
One more added, “I’m sure still there will be no action against this operator. And no compensation to the victim whatsoever. In the US, this would’ve been a multi million dollar lawsuit."
Rishikesh Police Orders Safety Check Across All Adventure Operators
After the video surfaced online, Tehri Garhwal DM Nikita Khandelwal told The Times of India, “I have ordered an inquiry into the matter and all activities at Thrill Factory have been suspended until the probe is complete. A safety audit of all companies involved in adventure activities is also being conducted."
Muni Ki Reti SHO Pradeep Chauhan added, “Sonu and his friend had arrived in Rishikesh on Monday. We have not received a formal complaint so far."
As of now, there are no reports of any action taken against the operators of Thrill Factory.
