Pune: Police are continuing their investigation into the alleged murder of Ketan Agarwal, who died after falling from a cliff at Lohagad Fort near Pune, with fresh details emerging from the victim's family and the ongoing probe.
According to the police, Ketan Agarwal, who was engaged to Siya Goyal and scheduled to marry her in November, died on June 18 after allegedly being pushed from a cliff. Investigators have accused Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary of conspiring to kill him.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (Lonavala Division) Gajanan Tonpe said the alleged roles of both Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary in the incident had been established during the investigation. Police claim Goyal took Agarwal to the fort, where he was allegedly pushed from the cliff with Chaudhary's assistance.
Investigators are also examining the communication between the two accused. According to sources, call detail records indicate that Goyal and Chaudhary exchanged more than 2,000 phone calls since January, with the conversations lasting a combined 238 hours. Police are probing whether the two discussed or planned the alleged crime during these interactions.
Meanwhile, the victim's family has denied suggestions that Goyal was being forced into the marriage. Ketan's prospective brother-in-law, Sahil Goyal, told police that the family would have cancelled the wedding had Siya expressed any unwillingness to marry. Her mother, Pooja Goyal, also stated that her daughter had never indicated dissatisfaction with the match and said she had neither met nor spoken to Chetan Chaudhary.
Responding to the allegations, Siya Goyal's lawyer maintained that Goyal and Chaudhary were "friends" and has not accepted the prosecution's version of events.
The investigation is also examining whether a meeting between the two accused before the incident was connected to the alleged conspiracy.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Maharashtra has described the incident as "shocking" and assured the victim's family that the state government would extend full support during the investigation.
The case remains under investigation, and the allegations against the accused are yet to be tested in court.
