The political controversy over the NEET UG examination continued on Thursday, with Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan accusing Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and the opposition of “misleading” students and creating fear in their minds.
Speaking to CNN-News18, Pradhan said that recent statements by Rahul Gandhi in connection with the NEET controversy were spreading misinformation among aspirants. “Rahul Gandhi misled the NEET aspirants. Don’t mislead and put fear in the minds of the new generation. We all have a responsibility towards them,” he said.
His remarks come amid the ongoing NEET UG row, where opposition parties have demanded accountability and reportedly called for the resignation of the Education Minister over alleged irregularities and a suspected paper leak.
Pradhan also criticised political activities held close to examination dates, stating that such events were not appropriate during a sensitive period for students. He referred to an opposition rally in Kota, suggesting it was held just days before the exam.
Further escalating the political exchange, the minister alleged that three students in Karnataka were unable to reach their examination centres due to a rally addressed by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge in Bengaluru. He said the Congress should not lecture the government on the issue in light of such incidents.
Pradhan also commented on the “Cockroach Janta Party,” describing it as an online group aligned with the Congress leadership, and termed it a “B-team” of Rahul Gandhi.
Earlier, in an interview with NDTV, the minister had criticised the handling of the NEET examination process, stating that individuals entrusted with responsibilities by the National Testing Agency (NTA) had failed to perform their duties. He remarked that those meant to safeguard the system had “turned into predators,” using a Hindi phrase to emphasise his point.
The NEET UG controversy continues to draw political reactions, with both the government and opposition exchanging allegations over accountability and student welfare. The matter remains under discussion as demands for investigation and clarification continue.
