In a video recorded during her morning commute, Thapar said that remaining silent in the face of disrespect is not an option, especially when personal dignity and family are targeted. She revealed that the trolling included abusive language and even involved comments about her mother, which she described as crossing all boundaries.
The entrepreneur said the situation became so distressing that she stopped her car mid-journey to record the video and address the issue directly.
Clarifying the controversy, Thapar stated that her earlier remarks on Namaz were made purely from a health and wellness perspective. She had described the prayer as a beneficial physical and mental practice, highlighting its impact on flexibility, joint health, digestion, and stress reduction. She also compared certain postures in Namaz to yoga positions like Vajrasana.
Thapar questioned the backlash, noting that she has previously spoken about practices like yoga and Surya Namaskar without facing similar criticism. She raised concerns over what she called selective outrage when discussing traditions from different religions.
In her message, she emphasised the importance of mutual respect, stating that religion should stand for respect, particularly towards women. She also urged people to speak up against wrongdoing rather than staying silent.
The controversy began after a social media post she shared following Eid celebrations, where she discussed the health benefits of Namaz. Her response now calls for a more balanced and respectful public discourse.
