Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has postponed the Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) 2026, scheduled for June 28, after reports emerged of a suspected question paper leak just a day before the examination.
The exam was set to be conducted at 1,028 centres across the state. Authorities said the decision to defer the test was taken after police action in Bhiwandi led to the recovery of documents that allegedly contained portions of the TET question paper.
According to Nandkumar Bedse, director of the Maharashtra State Examination Council, police received confidential inputs on June 27 about individuals in Bhiwandi allegedly possessing the question paper. Acting on the information, Bhiwandi Police carried out a raid and sought assistance from examination officials to verify the material.
During verification, officials found that some of the questions in the seized material matched the actual TET 2026 question paper, prompting the authorities to register a criminal case and launch an investigation.
The Maharashtra State Examination Council said the postponement was necessary to ensure a fair and transparent examination process. It added that a revised date for the test would be announced later on its official website.
Officials also stated that enhanced security measures had been put in place for the examination, taking into account previous irregularities reported in other competitive exams. However, the suspected leak led to concerns over the integrity of the test process.
Police are continuing their investigation to determine the source of the alleged leak and whether more individuals are involved in the case.
The MAHA TET 2026 had drawn significant participation, with more than 4.28 lakh candidates registering for the exam, resulting in over six lakh applications for Papers 1 and 2.
