A woman in Karnataka's Udupi district was allegedly kidnapped and raped by a man she met on Instagram, police said.

The incident occurred on Friday in Karkala when the accused kidnapped the woman in a white car near a beekeeping site and took her to a forested area. Two other men arrived in another car and provided the accused with beer bottles, according to the complaint.

The accused allegedly mixed drugs with the beer and forced the woman to drink it, rendering her unconscious. He then sexually assaulted her inside the car.

When the accused went to drop the woman home, right-wing activists intercepted his car. They found the woman in an intoxicated state and alerted authorities.

The woman was taken to a hospital for medical examination and treatment. The accused was arrested along with another accomplice and charged with kidnapping, rape, and other offenses.

The woman’s family filed a complaint alleging gangrape, and cops are investigating the claim.

"The woman's statement will be recorded by a judicial officer, and medical reports will be considered," said Dr Arun, Superintendent of Police for Udupi.

Further investigation is on.
